Biography
Estelle Hemsley (1887–1968) was an American actress who worked in theatre and film. She began her career on stage in the 1930s, appearing in Broadway productions including Conjur Man Dies (1936), The Case of Philip Lawrence (1937), Tobacco Road (1950 revival) and Take a Giant Step (1953).
Her film roles include Mrs. Price in Edge of the City (1957), Gram Martin in Take a Giant Step (1959), Old Malla in The Leech Woman (1960), Grandmother Topouzoglou in America America (1963) and Catherine in Baby the Rain Must Fall (1965). She received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Take a Giant Step.
