Biography
Esther Walz is a German costume designer and production designer. Born on 20 December 1958, she trained at the Academy of Jewelry Art and Parsons School of Design in New York. She made her film debut in 1980 and worked as assistant costume designer on The Name of the Rose (1986) and in the props department on Wings of Desire (1987).
Walz has designed costumes for numerous German and international productions, including Faraway, So Close! (1993), Beyond the Clouds (1995), A Sound of Thunder (2005), The Elementary Particles (2006), Pope Joan (2009), The People vs. Fritz Bauer (2015), The Silent Revolution (2018) and The Conference (2022). She won the Deutscher Filmpreis for best costume design for The People vs. Fritz Bauer and received further nominations for Pope Joan, The Silent Revolution and other films. She has also designed for television series such as Barbarians and Furia, and worked in theatre.
