Biography
Eugène Silvain (1851–1930) was a French stage actor. He trained at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique and joined the Comédie-Française in 1878, becoming a sociétaire in 1883 and serving as dean of the company from 1916 until his retirement in 1928.
His only substantial screen role came late in life as Bishop Pierre Cauchon in Carl Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). He also appeared in the 1922 documentary Molière, sa vie, son œuvre.
