Biography
Eva Kotamanidou (Greek: Εύα Κοταμανίδου) was a Greek actress. Born on 16 March 1936 in Nea Filadelfeia, Athens, she trained in acting at the Karolos Koun Drama School (Theatre of Art) after studying French literature.
She made her film debut as Elektra in Theodoros Angelopoulos's The Travelling Players (1975), for which she received awards at the Thessaloniki and Johannesburg film festivals. She appeared in further Angelopoulos films including The Hunters (1977), Alexander the Great (1980), Landscape in the Mist (1988), Ulysses' Gaze (1995) and The Weeping Meadow (2004).
Kotamanidou also acted in other Greek films such as Rosa (1982) and Zoi charisameni (1993), winning awards at the Thessaloniki Film Festival for both. She served as a member of the Greek Parliament for Athens with the Synaspismos party following the 1989 elections and stood as a candidate with the Democratic Left in 2012. She died on 26 November 2020.
