Biography

Fatoumata Diawara is a Malian actress and singer-songwriter. Born on 21 February 1982 in Ouragahio, Ivory Coast, to Malian parents, she began her career in acting as a teenager.

She appeared in Cheick Oumar Sissoko's La Genèse (1999) and Dani Kouyaté's Sia, le rêve du python (2001). After moving to France, she performed with the street theatre troupe Royal de Luxe. Diawara played the role of the singer Fatou in Abderrahmane Sissako's Timbuktu (2014) and Gloria in Yao (2019). She has also provided voice work, including in Tales of the Night (2011).

Diawara has pursued a parallel career in music, releasing albums and collaborating with artists such as Gorillaz. She lives in France.
