Biography
Forrest Meredith Tucker (12 February 1919 – 25 October 1986) was an American actor who appeared in nearly a hundred films and numerous television series. Born in Plainfield, Indiana, he began performing as a teenager, working in burlesque and vaudeville before making his screen debut in The Westerner (1940).
Tucker served in the United States Army during the Second World War. After the war he resumed his career with roles including Lem Forrester in The Yearling (1946). He became known for Westerns such as Sands of Iwo Jima (1950) and Chisum (1970), and later for his stage work, including a long national tour of The Music Man.
On television he played Sergeant Morgan O'Rourke in the sitcom F Troop (1965–1967) and appeared in episodes of Columbo, Bonanza, Kojak and Murder, She Wrote. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986.
