Biography
Franca Squarciapino is an Italian costume designer. Born in Rome in 1940, she has worked extensively in theatre, opera and film, designing for major institutions including the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera and the Vienna State Opera.
She is best known for her work on the films Cyrano de Bergerac (1990), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, Colonel Chabert (1994) and The Horseman on the Roof (1995). Squarciapino frequently collaborated with production designer Ezio Frigerio, her husband.
