Biography
Franco Solinas (19 January 1927 – 14 September 1982) was an Italian screenwriter and writer. Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, he began his career in journalism and published the novel Squarciò in 1956 before moving into film writing in the early 1950s.
He is best known for his work with director Gillo Pontecorvo, including the screenplays for Kapò (1960), The Battle of Algiers (1966) and Burn! (1969). Solinas also wrote or contributed to Salvatore Giuliano (1962), A Bullet for the General (1967), The Big Gundown (1967), The Mercenary (1968), State of Siege (1972), Mr. Klein (1976) and Hanna K. (1983). The Battle of Algiers received three Academy Award nominations.
