Biography
Frank Craven (24 August 1875 – 1 September 1945) was an American actor, playwright and screenwriter. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, into a theatrical family, he began appearing on stage as a child and later wrote and performed in several Broadway comedies, including Too Many Cooks (1914) and The First Year (1920).
Craven originated the role of the Stage Manager in Thornton Wilder's Our Town on Broadway in 1938. He reprised the part, credited as Mr. Morgan, in the 1940 film version and co-wrote the screenplay with Harry Chandlee and Wilder. His son, actor John Craven, appeared in the stage production.
On screen he played supporting roles in films such as Barbary Coast (1935), In This Our Life (1942), Keeper of the Flame (1943) and Son of Dracula (1943). He also wrote the story for the Laurel and Hardy comedy Sons of the Desert (1933).
