Biography
Frank Emmons Overton (12 March 1918 – 24 April 1967) was an American actor. Born in Babylon, New York, he began his career on the stage in New York City, appearing in Broadway productions including The Trip to Bountiful (1953) and The Desperate Hours (1954).
Overton was known for character roles in film and television, often portraying authority figures. His film credits include Sheriff Heck Tate in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), General Bogan in Fail Safe (1964) and Walter Clark in Wild River (1960). On television he played Major Harvey Stovall in the series 12 O'Clock High (1964–1967) and Elias Sandoval in the Star Trek episode "This Side of Paradise" (1967).
He also made guest appearances in series such as The Twilight Zone, Bonanza and Perry Mason. Overton died of a heart attack in Pacific Palisades, California, aged 49.
