Biography
Frank Silvera was a Jamaican-born American actor and theatrical director. Born on 24 July 1914 in Kingston, Jamaica, he moved with his family to Boston at the age of six. He attended English High School of Boston, studied at Boston University and Northeastern University School of Law, and left law school in 1934 after being cast in his first stage role.
Silvera made his Broadway debut in 1940. His career was interrupted by service in the United States Navy during the Second World War. After the war he joined the cast of Anna Lucasta and became a member of the Actors Studio. He made his film debut in The Cimarron Kid (1952) and appeared in Viva Zapata! (1952), Killer's Kiss (1955), Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) and Hombre (1967). He also had recurring and guest roles in television series including Bonanza, The High Chaparral and Hawaii Five-O.
Silvera founded the Theatre of Being in Los Angeles in 1965. He died on 11 June 1970 in Pasadena, California.
