Biography
Frankie Darro (born Frank Johnson Jr.) was an American actor and stuntman. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on 22 December 1917, he came from a show-business family; his parents were circus aerialists known as the Flying Johnsons. He began appearing in films at the age of six and worked steadily through the silent era and into the 1930s, often playing teenagers and young leads owing to his slight build.
He is best known for providing the uncredited voice of Lampwick in Walt Disney's Pinocchio (1940). Other notable early roles include the lead in Wild Boys of the Road (1933) and appearances in The Public Enemy (1931) and The Mayor of Hell (1933). Later in his career he took uncredited parts and stunt work, including operating the robot in Forbidden Planet (1956). Darro died on 25 December 1976 in Huntington Beach, California.
