Biography
Frauke Firl is a German costume designer. She studied costume design at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Hamburg between 1992 and 1995, after earlier training in acting and music. She worked in opera and theatre productions in Cologne and Bonn until 1999, before taking on television commissions from around 2002 and her first feature film credit in 2005.
Her film work includes Antichrist (2009) for Lars von Trier, Hannah Arendt (2012) and Die abhandene Welt (2014) for Margarethe von Trotta, Paula (2016), The Lion Woman (2016), Je suis Karl (2021), The German Lesson (2019), Cuckoo (2024) and The End (2024). She has also designed costumes for several television series and mini-series.
Firl won the Deutscher Filmpreis for Best Costume Design for Paula in 2017. She received a nomination for the Danish Robert Award for Antichrist and a further Deutscher Filmpreis nomination for Hannah Arendt.
