Biography
Fred Orain was a French film producer and production manager. Born Alfred Anthème Jean Orain on 2 January 1909 in Bonnemain, Ille-et-Vilaine, he trained as an engineer at ESIEE Paris and began his career in radio before entering the film industry in 1931 at Paramount studios. He rose to technical director of the Studios de Saint-Maurice and later served as president of the Commission Supérieure Technique (CST) from its founding in 1944 until 1974.
Orain produced or managed production on several notable French films, including Children of Paradise (1945), Jour de Fête (1949), Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) and Mon Oncle (1958), the latter three in association with Jacques Tati through his companies Cady-Films and Armor-Films. He also produced numerous short films. Orain retired to the south of France in 1974 and died on 11 February 1999 in Le Cannet, Alpes-Maritimes.
