Biography
Fritz Wepper (17 August 1941 – 25 March 2024) was a German actor born in Munich. He began performing as a child, appearing in a production of Peter Pan at the Residenztheater at the age of eleven. His early film roles included Albert Mutz in Bernhard Wicki’s The Bridge (1959).
Wepper gained international recognition for his role as Fritz Wendel in Bob Fosse’s Cabaret (1972). In Germany he was best known for playing Harry Klein, first in Der Kommissar (1969–1974) and then in the long-running series Derrick (1974–1998). Later credits included Mayor Wolfgang Wöller in For Heaven’s Sake (2002–2021) and Dr. Wendelin Winter in High Society Murder (2007–2017). He also appeared with his brother Elmar Wepper in the series Two Brothers (1994–2001).
Wepper turned down offers from Hollywood after Cabaret and remained active in German television and film throughout his career.
