Biography

John Forrest "Fuzzy" Knight was an American actor and singer. Born in Fairmont, West Virginia, he attended West Virginia University before joining a travelling minstrel show as a musician. He performed with big bands and appeared in vaudeville and on Broadway before moving to Hollywood, where he featured in musical short films from the late 1920s.

Knight's first notable film role was as Rag Time Kelly in She Done Him Wrong (1933). He appeared in more than 180 films between 1928 and 1967, frequently as the comic sidekick to cowboy heroes in Westerns. Among his credits were roles in Union Pacific (1939), The Shepherd of the Hills (1941) and The Egg and I (1947). In the 1950s he gained a new audience as Private Fuzzy Knight in the television series Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion (1955–1957). He died in Woodland Hills, California, in 1976.
