Biography
Gabriel Ripstein is a Mexican film producer, director, editor and screenwriter. Born in 1972 in Mexico City, he is the son of director Arturo Ripstein and grandson of producer Alfredo Ripstein. He studied economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and holds an MBA in media management from Columbia Business School.
Ripstein began producing feature films in 1999, working on titles including El Coronel No Tiene Quien le Escriba (1999) and Chronic (2015), two of which competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. He made his directorial debut with 600 Millas (2015), which he also wrote and produced; the film won the Best First Feature award at the Berlin International Film Festival.
His television directing credits include episodes of Narcos (2017). He has since directed, written and produced series such as An Unknown Enemy (2018–2022) and Mentiras, The Series (2025), and directed Mexico 86 (2026).
