Biography
Gamil Ratib, also credited as Gamil Rateb or جميل راتب, was an Egyptian-French actor. Born in Cairo, he studied law and economics in Paris but turned to theatre, joining the Comédie Française in the early 1950s. He made his film debut in the mid-1940s and appeared in international productions including Trapeze (1956) as Stefan and Lawrence of Arabia (1962) as Majid.
Ratib returned to Egypt in the 1970s and became known for roles as villains or aristocrats in numerous Egyptian films and television series. He also worked in French cinema and received the Legion of Honour. His career spanned more than sixty years until his death in Cairo in 2018.
