Biography
Gareth Edwards is a British radio and television producer and writer. Born in 1965 in Cornwall, England, he is the great-grandson of Hollywood pioneer Albert E. Smith, founder of Vitagraph Studios. After a degree in English he worked in fringe theatre before beginning his broadcasting career as a volunteer at GWR Radio Bristol and as a trainee producer at BBC Radio Light Entertainment in 1991.
Edwards produced the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced (1999). He produced That Mitchell and Webb Sound (BBC Radio 4, 2003–09), which won a Sony Silver Award in 2004, and its television adaptation That Mitchell and Webb Look (BBC Two, 2006–10), which won the BAFTA for best comedy in 2006. Other credits include Posh Nosh (2003), Dead Ringers (2003–04), Bleak Expectations (BBC Radio 4, 2007–11) and its spin-off The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff (2011), Upstart Crow (2016–20) and Still Open All Hours (2013–). He has also written children's books.
