Biography
Gary David Goldberg was an American television and film writer and producer. He was born on 25 June 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, and died on 22 June 2013 in Montecito, California.
Goldberg began his television career in the mid-1970s as a writer on series including The Bob Newhart Show. He wrote an episode of MASH and later produced Lou Grant. In 1982 he formed Ubu Productions and created the sitcom Family Ties (1982–1989), which he executive produced. He went on to create Brooklyn Bridge (1991–1993) and co-create Spin City* (1996–2002).
His feature film credits include writing and directing Dad (1989) and Must Love Dogs (2005). He received Writers Guild of America awards, including one for his MASH script, and Emmy Awards for his work on Lou Grant and Family Ties*.
