Biography

Gary Shaw is a British cinematographer. He served as director of photography on the science fiction film Moon (2009), directed by Duncan Jones, and later reunited with Jones for Mute (2018). His other feature credits include Ill Manors (2012), Estranged (2015), Believe (2013) and Tommy's Honour (2016).

Shaw has worked extensively in television, with credits as director of photography or additional director of photography on series including His Dark Materials (2019–2022), Fortitude (2015–2018), Baptiste (2021) and The Burning Girls (2023). Earlier in his career he contributed to visual effects and camera departments on films such as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and Sleepy Hollow (1999).

For his work on Ill Manors, Shaw received the Best Cinematography award at the Dinard Film Festival in 2012. He served as a jury member for the British Independent Film Awards in 2015.
