Biography
Gene Evans (1922–1998) was an American actor who appeared in numerous films and television programmes from 1947 to 1989. Born in Holbrook, Arizona, he was raised in Colton, California, and served in the US Army during the Second World War, performing with a theatrical troupe of GIs in Europe.
He made his film debut in Under Colorado Skies (1947) and became known for tough-guy roles as soldiers, lawmen and heavies. Evans worked frequently with director Samuel Fuller, appearing in The Steel Helmet (1951), Fixed Bayonets! (1951), Park Row (1952) and Shock Corridor (1963). He played the Deputy Sheriff in Ace in the Hole (1951) and featured in other films including The Asphalt Jungle (1950), Operation Petticoat (1959) and Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973).
On television he portrayed Rob McLaughlin in the series My Friend Flicka (1956–1957) and made guest appearances in programmes such as Bonanza, The A-Team and Murder, She Wrote. Evans retired to a farm in Tennessee.
