Biography

Gene Kranz is an American NASA flight director and occasional film and television contributor. Born on 17 August 1933 in Toledo, Ohio, he joined NASA in 1960 and served as a flight director on multiple Gemini and Apollo missions, including Apollo 11 in 1969 and Apollo 13 in 1970.

He has appeared as himself in several documentaries and films, including Apollo 11 (2019), in which he is credited as Self - Flight Director White Team, Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo (2017) and For All Mankind (1989). Kranz retired from NASA in 1994 after a career that also encompassed Skylab and early Space Shuttle operations.
