Biography
Geoffrey Whitehead is an English actor born on 1 October 1939 in Grenoside, Sheffield. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and has worked in television, film, stage and radio since 1962.
His television credits include appearances in Z-Cars (1964–1965 and 1972–1975), Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em (1973), Not Going Out (2006–) as Geoffrey Adams, Midsomer Murders, Agatha Christie's Poirot and Upstart Crow (2016). He played Sherlock Holmes in the series Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson (1979–1980). Film roles include And Now the Screaming Starts! (1973), Shooting Fish (1997) and Little Dorrit (2008).
Whitehead has also performed extensively on radio, including in BBC adaptations of Cadfael and Bleak Expectations, and on stage with companies such as the Bristol Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
