Biography
George F. Marion (also credited as George Francis Marion) was an American stage and film actor and director. Born in San Francisco in 1860, he began his career on Broadway, where he originated the role of Chris Christopherson in Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie in 1921. He later appeared in the 1923 silent film version starring Blanche Sweet and the 1930 sound adaptation with Greta Garbo.
Marion acted in around 35 films between 1915 and 1935. His notable screen roles include Pop in the prison drama The Big House (1930) and Chris Christopherson in Anna Christie (1930). He also directed two silent films early in his career. He died in Carmel, California, in 1945. His son, George Marion Jr., became a Hollywood screenwriter.
