Biography
George Nichols, also credited as George O. Nichols and similar variants, was an American actor and film director. Born in 1864 in Rockford, Illinois, he had a stage career with stock companies in San Francisco and Chicago before entering films around 1908.
He appeared in more than 200 films between 1908 and 1928 and directed over 100 films, mainly between 1911 and 1916. Nichols worked at Biograph, Thanhouser and Keystone Studios, and played the Judge in The Eagle (1925). Among his other credits are roles in Broken Blossoms (1919) and The Wedding March (1928).
He was the father of director George Nicholls Jr. Nichols died in Hollywood, California, in 1927.
