Biography
George O'Brien (1899–1985) was an American actor who worked in both silent and sound films. He is best known for playing the lead role in F. W. Murnau's Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927).
O'Brien began in Hollywood as a stuntman and extra before John Ford cast him in The Iron Horse (1924). He appeared in nine further films for Ford, including Fort Apache (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and Cheyenne Autumn (1964). He also starred in numerous Westerns during the 1930s and 1940s.
O'Brien served in both the First and Second World Wars. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to motion pictures.
