Biography
Gérard Darmon is a French-Moroccan actor and singer. Born in Paris on 29 February 1948, he studied dramatic arts and performed in café-théâtre for nearly a decade before making his film debut in The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob (1973).
He played L'Antillais in Diva (1981) and appeared in Betty Blue (1986). Darmon received César Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Betty Blue and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002). Other credits include Fear City: A Family-Style Comedy (1994) and Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom (2023). He has worked frequently with directors such as Jean-Jacques Beineix and Alain Chabat.
Darmon was married to actress Mathilda May from 1994 to 1999. In 2012 he was naturalised as a Moroccan citizen by decree of King Mohammed VI.
