Biography

Gerry Conway was an American comic book writer, editor and television writer. He began writing for Marvel Comics in the late 1960s and co-created the Punisher with John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. He also co-created characters including Firestorm, Power Girl and Killer Croc at DC Comics, and wrote the influential Spider-Man story arc "The Night Gwen Stacy Died".

Conway wrote the story for the film Conan the Destroyer (1984) and contributed to animated series such as Batman: The Animated Series (1992). From the 1990s he worked extensively in television procedurals, writing and producing episodes of Father Dowling Mysteries, Diagnosis: Murder, Matlock and the Law & Order franchise. He received story and teleplay credits on several episodes of Law & Order (1990).

He died on 26 April 2026 in Thousand Oaks, California.
