Biography
Gia Carides is an Australian actress. She began acting at the age of 12, making her film debut in The Love Letters from Teralba Road (1977), and early in her career appeared in Australian productions including Police Rescue as Helena Angelopoulos.
She is known for her role as Liz Holt in Strictly Ballroom (1992), for which she received an AFI Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Other notable credits include Susy Connor in Brilliant Lies (1996), which earned her an AFI nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Cousin Nikki in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding films (2002–2023), and Robin Swallows in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999). She has worked in both Australian and American film and television.
Carides is the sister of actress Zoe Carides. She was married to actor Anthony LaPaglia from 1998 until their divorce in 2015; they have one daughter.
