Biography
Gia Scala was a British-American actress. Born Josephine Grace Johanna Scoglio on 3 March 1934 in Liverpool, England, to a Sicilian father and an Irish mother, she moved to the United States as a teenager and studied acting in New York with Stella Adler and at the Actors Studio. She became a naturalised American citizen in 1958.
She appeared in films including an uncredited role in All That Heaven Allows (1955) and supporting parts in Don't Go Near the Water (1957), The Tunnel of Love (1958) and Ride a Crooked Trail (1958). Her best-known film role was as Anna in The Guns of Navarone (1961). She also guest-starred in television series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Scala married actor Don Burnett in 1959; they divorced in 1970. She died on 30 April 1972 in Los Angeles, aged 38.
