Biography

Giancarlo Ferrando (4 November 1939 – 13 August 2020) was an Italian cinematographer and occasional director. Born in Rome, he began working in film as a child actor before becoming an assistant operator in the late 1950s under Augusto Tiezzi. He worked for over a decade as an operator and assistant cinematographer before debuting as director of photography in 1971.

Ferrando maintained a long professional association with directors Sergio Martino and producer Luciano Martino, contributing to numerous giallo thrillers and other Italian productions. His credits include All the Colours of the Dark (1972), Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (1972), Torso (1973), Troll 2 (1990) and L'allenatore nel pallone 2 (2008). In 1994 he directed his only feature, La ragazza di Cortina.
