Biography

Gianna Gissi is an Italian costume designer. Born on 5 February 1943 in Pola (now Pula), she moved to Rome and trained at the Liceo Artistico di Ripetta before graduating from the Accademia di Costume e Moda.

She began her career as an assistant and first took sole credit on television productions in the late 1960s. Gissi has worked extensively with directors Mario Monicelli and Gianni Amelio, and on films including Il marchese del Grillo (1981), Amici miei atto II (1982), Johnny Stecchino (1991), Il ladro di bambini (1992) and The Postman (1994).

Her awards include David di Donatello prizes for best costumes on Il marchese del Grillo (1982) and Porte aperte (1990), a Nastro d’Argento, and several festival lifetime achievement awards. She is married to production designer Lorenzo Baraldi.
