Biography
Gianni Amico (1933–1990) was an Italian screenwriter, director and cultural organiser. Born in Loano, Savona, he began working in film production in the early 1960s and co-wrote the screenplay for Bernardo Bertolucci’s Before the Revolution (1964).
He collaborated again with Bertolucci on Partner (1968) and with Glauber Rocha on The Lion Has Seven Heads (1970). Amico served as assistant director to Jean-Luc Godard on Wind from the East (1970) and directed numerous documentaries and television films for RAI, including several made in Brazil. He also organised international film festivals focused on Latin American cinema.
