Biography
Go Riju (利重 剛) is a Japanese actor and film director born on 31 July 1962 in Yokohama, Kanagawa. He began making 8mm films while at high school, with one entry selected for the 1980 Pia Film Festival. In 1981 he made his acting debut in the television drama Fubo no gosan and appeared in Kihachi Okamoto's At This Late Date, the Charleston, for which he also co-wrote the script and worked as assistant director.
As an actor he is known for the role of Mishima, age 18–19, in Paul Schrader's Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985). Subsequent film credits include Eureka (2000), Vital (2004), True Mothers (2020) and Shin Ultraman (2022), as well as numerous television dramas. As a director, Elephant Song (1994) won the NETPAC Award at the Berlin International Film Festival; Berlin (1995) received the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. His mother is scriptwriter Mieko Osanai.
