Biography

Gorô Kusakabe (1934–2020) was a Japanese film producer and production designer. He was born in Gifu Prefecture and worked primarily with Toei Company on yakuza and period dramas.

Kusakabe served as producer on Kinji Fukasaku’s Battles Without Honor and Humanity (1973) and its sequels Police Tactics (1974) and Final Episode (1974). He also produced Shohei Imamura’s The Ballad of Narayama (1983), on which he received a production design credit, and worked on numerous other Toei productions as planner or producer through the 1990s.
