Biography
Gu Changwei is a Chinese cinematographer and film director. Born on 12 December 1957 in Xi'an, Shaanxi, he studied in the Photography Department of the Beijing Film Academy from 1978 to 1982 and was assigned to the Xi'an Film Studio after graduation.
He collaborated with directors Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou on several Fifth Generation films, including Red Sorghum (1988), Ju Dou (1990) and Farewell My Concubine (1993). His other cinematography credits include In the Heat of the Sun (1994), The Gingerbread Man (1998), Hurlyburly (1998) and Devils on the Doorstep (2001). He has also directed films such as Peacock (2005), which won the Jury Grand Prix at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Gu is married to actress Jiang Wenli.
