Biography
Günter Rohrbach is a German film and television producer. He studied Germanistics, philosophy, psychology and theatre studies in Bonn, Munich, Paris and Cologne, and was awarded a doctorate in 1957 for a dissertation on Grimmelshausen’s Simplicissimus. From 1961 he worked as an editor at the WDR television channel, becoming head of its teleplay department between 1965 and 1979.
In 1979 Rohrbach was appointed chief executive of Bavaria Film in Munich, a post he held until 1994. During this period he produced Das Boot (1981) and served as co-producer on The NeverEnding Story (1984). He later worked as an independent producer on films including Stalingrad (1993), Schtonk! (1992), Aimée & Jaguar (1999) and A Woman in Berlin (2008). He has held a professorship at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München since 1992 and was a founding president of the Deutsche Filmakademie.
