Biography
Gustav Hasford was an American novelist, journalist and poet. He served as a combat correspondent with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
His semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers (1979) formed the basis for the film Full Metal Jacket (1987). Hasford shared screenplay credit with Stanley Kubrick and Michael Herr; the script received an Academy Award nomination.
He published two further novels, The Phantom Blooper (1990) and A Gypsy Good Time (1992). Hasford died in Greece in 1993.
