Biography
Gylfi Zoega is an Icelandic economist specialising in macroeconomics and labour economics. Born on 14 February 1963, he earned a BA from the University of Iceland in 1987 and MA, MPhil and PhD degrees from Columbia University in 1989, 1991 and 1993 respectively.
He is a professor of economics at the University of Iceland and a part-time professor at Birkbeck College, University of London. He has been an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Iceland and has contributed to public debate on economic policy, particularly during and after the Icelandic financial crisis of 2008–2010. Zoega appears in the 2010 documentary film Inside Job as Professor of Economics at the University of Iceland.
