Biography
Halfdan E (also credited as Halfdan E. Nielsen) is a Danish composer for film and television. Born on 21 November 1965 in Fløng, Denmark, he began as a session bass player in rock bands during the 1980s and early 1990s before studying at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He later collaborated with Danish poet Dan Turèll on two albums that won Danish Grammy Awards.
E has composed scores for numerous Danish and international productions. His work includes the television series Borgen (2010), for which his music won the 2011 FIPA prize, as well as Apple Tree Yard (2017), Badehotellet (2013–), Ragnarok (2020) and Secrets We Keep (2025). He has received three Danish Robert Awards and has worked repeatedly with directors including Per Fly. He also composed the four-tone notification sound for Danish state railways in 2012.
