Biography
Hans Charles is a cinematographer and producer. He studied cinema at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and later completed an MFA in film at Howard University. He has worked as a director of photography on documentaries and television series, including sharing the role on Ava DuVernay’s 13th (2016).
Charles is an associate professor of cinematography at George Mason University. His credits include work with directors such as DuVernay on Venus Vs. (2013) and Salim Akil, as well as episodes of All American: Homecoming (2022–2024) and the documentary series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men (2019). He received an Emmy nomination for outstanding cinematography for a nonfiction programme for 13th.
