Biography
Hans Lanser-Ludolff, also credited as Hans Lanser-Rudolf, was a German theatre and film actor of the silent era. Born August Wilhelm Lanser on 19 June 1860 in Bonn, he later adopted his stage name. After selling his family's wax factory in 1903, he began acting at the Weimar Court Theatre and subsequently worked at other German theatres, including the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. He also directed plays and wrote for the stage.
Lanser-Ludolff appeared in numerous early German films from 1914 onwards. He is known for his uncredited roles as the Old Man in Robert Wiene's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) and as a magistrate in F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922). His film work continued into the early 1920s. He died on 19 January 1934 in Munich.
