Biography

Harlan Thompson (1890–1966) was an American screenwriter, stage director, lyricist, film director and producer. Born in Hannibal, Missouri, he worked as a newspaperman before moving into theatre and film.

He wrote the book and lyrics for the Broadway musical Little Jessie James (1923–24) and several other stage productions. In Hollywood from the late 1920s he contributed screenplays and dialogue to films including Married in Hollywood (1929), Kiss and Make-Up (1934) and Ruggles of Red Gap (1935). He later produced films and television programmes such as the Ed Wynn show.

Thompson was married to the writer Marian Spitzer.
