Biography
Harry Bellaver (born Enricho Bellaver) was an American stage, film and television actor. Born in Hillsboro, Illinois, he left school early and worked in various manual jobs before receiving a scholarship to Brookwood Labor College in New York, where he began acting. He trained with the Hedgerow Repertory Theater and later joined the Group Theater in New York, making his Broadway debut in the 1930s.
Bellaver appeared in numerous films from the late 1930s onwards, including Another Thin Man (1939), No Way Out (1950) and From Here to Eternity (1953) as Private Mazzioli. He had a long career on Broadway, notably as Chief Sitting Bull in the original production of Annie Get Your Gun (1946). On television he starred as Sergeant Frank Arcaro in 136 episodes of the series Naked City (1958–1963). His final screen role was in the film The Stuff (1985).
