Biography
Harry Beresford was an English actor. Born Henry William Walter Horseley Beresford in London on 4 November 1863, he began his career in 1885 as a chorus member in Little Jack Sheppard at the Gaiety Theatre, London. He moved to the United States in 1886 and performed in repertory and touring companies for three decades, later using the stage name Harry J. Morgan early in his career.
Beresford achieved Broadway success from 1919, including creating the role of Clem Hawley in The Old Soak (1922). Between 1926 and 1938 he appeared as a supporting actor in more than fifty Hollywood films. He received original story credit for the 1939 film Long Shot.
His film roles included Doctor Bangs in Little Women (1933), Fosdick in Dinner at Eight (1933), the Soothsayer in Cleopatra (1934), Dr. Duke in Doctor X (1932), Dr. Chillip in David Copperfield (1935), Matve in Anna Karenina (1935), Captain Hickey in Follow the Fleet (1936) and the Watch in The Prince and the Pauper (1937). He died in Los Angeles on 4 October 1944.
