Biography
Harry Ruby (1895–1974) was an American pianist, composer, songwriter and screenwriter. Born Harry Rubenstein in New York City, he began his career playing piano in vaudeville and working as a song plugger before forming a long-term songwriting partnership with Bert Kalmar in 1920.
Ruby and Kalmar contributed songs and screenplays to several films, including the Marx Brothers pictures Animal Crackers (1930), Horse Feathers (1932) and Duck Soup (1933). Ruby was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. He was married to silent-film actress Eileen Percy.
