Biography
Haruomi Hosono is a Japanese composer, musician and record producer. He composed the original score for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters (2018), which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
Born in Tokyo in 1947, Hosono began his career in the late 1960s as a member of the bands Apryl Fool and Happy End. He later co-founded the influential electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) in 1978. His film work includes the scores for Night on the Galactic Railroad (1985) and Appleseed: Ex Machina (2007).
