Biography
Haruya Yamazaki (1938–2002) was a Japanese screenwriter who worked extensively in anime and television animation from the 1960s to the 1990s. He graduated from Waseda University and began his career with part-time work at Osamu Tezuka’s Mushi Production before going freelance in 1966.
Yamazaki contributed scripts to numerous series, including sports anime such as Tomorrow’s Joe (1970) and Star of the Giants, as well as science-fiction and adventure titles like Space Pirate Captain Harlock (1978), Space Adventure Cobra (1982) and Nobody’s Boy: Remi (1977). He co-wrote the screenplay for the feature film The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) with Hayao Miyazaki. Later in his career he also wrote novels and novelisations.
