Biography
Hatidze Muratova is a beekeeper from North Macedonia who appears as herself in the 2019 documentary Honeyland, directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov. The film follows her life in a remote village where she practises traditional wild beekeeping, harvesting honey from cliffside hives and selling it in Skopje while caring for her elderly mother, Nazife Muratova.
Born in 1964, Muratova belongs to the Turkish-speaking community in the region. Honeyland documents the tensions that arise when a neighbouring family arrives and adopts less sustainable beekeeping methods. She has also contributed soundtrack performances to later projects.
